Born on May 1st, Devina Smith surprised her family with her enchanting snow-white mane.
Jessica Smith, a 27-year-old mother from Amory, Mississippi, USA, has compared her daughter to the Game of Thrones character Daenerys due to their identical silvery hair.
Jessica entered Gilmore Memorial Hospital prepared to welcome her new arrival. After enduring a challenging labor, she finally delivered a baby girl. However, when she laid eyes on her baby for the first time, she couldn’t fathom what she was witnessing. The astonishment seemed to be shared by the nurses and doctors as well.
Little did Jessica know the level of global attention her newborn would garner when she shared his photos on social media. People from all corners of the world expressed their admiration for the pictures, with one woman leaving a comment on her Facebook, “I adore seeing her pictures! She’s an incredibly beautiful baby, one of the most beautiful babies I’ve ever seen!”
Doctors diagnosed the child with partial albinism, but apart from requiring regular check-ups for her vision, Devina is in excellent health. Jessica had limited knowledge about albinism or partial albinism and what it might entail for Devina’s future. However, her medical team reassured her that, apart from the white hair, Devina was in perfect health. As she grows older, the condition shouldn’t pose significant challenges; she’ll primarily need extra eye examinations to monitor her eyes’ health and should take extra precautions with sunscreen.
Jessica, the full-time mum of three, said: “I never expected her to have hair like that.
“I didn’t know until she was born.
“The doctor told me she had a lot of hair during delivery but it was a shock when I saw her for the first time, she had so much hair, it was crazy.
“I hadn’t seen a baby like that before others were blond, but not white.
“I think it makes her extra special.”
Devina’s locks have already been attracting attention in public and online.
She said: “She’s so tiny, we haven’t taken her out much but when we took her for a hospital visit, a little girl said she looked like a baby doll.
“When we posted her photos online, they were being viewed thousands of times.
As the images and articles spread throughout the internet, a deluge of comments poured in. Jessica was taken aback not just by the huge amount of shares and comments Devina had got, but also by the fact that some people doubted the images were genuine.
She later said: “I couldn’t believe how much attention the photos were getting. People thought it had been photoshopped.” But Jessica and her family assured the viewers that Devina’s hair was, in fact, very real.
