The image of a baby monkey hugging his mother’s body, constantly shaking after a terrible accident on an Indian highway has made a strong impression on viewers.

The most heartbreaking thing is that the  baby monkey himself witnessed this whole tragic accident. The mother monkey was hit by a car while crossing the Tamil Nadu-Karnataka National highway near the village of Elanhur in southern India.

Seeing that his mother was suddenly injured for a moment, the baby monkey rushed over from the other side of the road and tried to wake its mother up. 

It hugged the mother’s body tightly, pressing its ear to the mother’s chest as if to check the heartbeat but all to no avail. According to the Times of India , after realizing its mother was dead, it began to cry non-stop.

The villagers in the place of the accident couldn’t hold back their tears when they saw the little monkey trying to find a way to revive his mother. The scene of mourning and separation really moved those who witnessed it, even though it was just a story in the animal world.

K. Saravanan, an eyewitness to this particular story, said: “Losing a loved one is not only painful for humans but also for animals. Watching baby monkeys mourn over their mother’s corpse like that. I feel sad too.”

The police arrived and took the little monkey away while kind villagers buried the mother monkey in a nearby plot. Residents, along with police and forestry officers, conducted the final burial rites for the mother monkey who had just passed away suddenly.
