When Juan was released from prison with the verdict that it was an unintentional tragic accident, Marissa was appointed as his “guardian” to make sure he didn’t commit suicide. Although she admitted at the time she didn’t care about Juan’s future and that anger had filled her, she has since given up on anger and hatred.

Marissa understands that Juan never intentionally hurt their child. Her goal is not merely to keep Juan out of prison, but to build a normal life for themselves and their other children. Although she knows she can’t go back to the way she was before this tragedy, Marissa is determined to live with hope and find joy in her new life.
