Former Barcelona and PSG superstar and footballing legend Ronaldinho has claimed that it would be ‘great’ to see Lionel Messi end his career with the Blaugrana amid talks of a summer return.
Messi left Barça in the summer of 2021 as a free agent after the Catalans could not renew his contract. The 35-year-old joined PSG in the aftermath and had signed a two-year contract with the Ligue 1 champions, which will run out this summer.
Reports of an exit have been doing the rounds constantly, with talks of a possible return to Barcelona being rife. Some player from the club have spoken about it openly while president Joan Laporta also recently insisted that the doors would always be open for Messi at Barça.
Now, Ronaldinho has also given his two cents on the matter, stating that it would be nice to see Messi return to Barcelona and finish his career at the club of his life.
As quoted by SPORT, the former Barcelona and Brazil great said: “I’m a friend of Messi’s, I’m very happy for him. I’m happy to see my friends making dreams come true, that makes me happy.
“For me, Messi is the best. I’d like to see him happy, I don’t care where it is. After all the history he’s had with Barcelona it would be great if he could finish his career there.”
Messi is understood to be prioritising a return to Barcelona over extending his contract at PSG. However, a comeback will not be straightforward due to the club’s financial situation.
La Liga president Javier Tebas warned the Blaugrana of the same recently, stating that many things need to change at the club for them to be able to re-sign Messi.
“Many things have to change for Leo Messi’s return to Barcelona. First off, he has to drastically lower his salary, the club must offload players and other things that they are yet to do. They are the only ones who can do it. We will not change the rules,” he said.
